Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was the exorcising fairy tale of ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin’ by the Brothers Grimm. Today, the equally gruesome and daring BOGEYMAN BUGABOO resumes the story’s thread.
In this present-day fairy tale, which picks up where the old fairy tale left off, the Rat `Choir ushers you into its deliciously unwashed narrative universe, and the quirky tale of Bogeyman Bugaboo. Do you have what it takes to face this hairy monster which gives everyone the creeps?
A fairy tale deserves a happy ending, no?
What if we promise you that you will have no problems sleeping? (Scout’s honour!)
What if from now on, your favourite bedside companion were a tiny rat…
BOGEYMAN BUGABOO is a musical show about loneliness and finding happiness. And it upholds the magical power of myths and folklore.

"With 'Bogeyman Bugaboo', the Kopergietery seems to be venturing into very old-fashioned children's theatre: a theatrical adaptation of a Grimm's fairy tale. However, author and co-director Barbara Claes wouldn't be herself if she didn't put a thoroughly mad twist on 'The Pied Piper of Hamelin'. The story is given a serious run-through… Exciting acting and a wonderfully boisterous audience." PZAZZ, K. Tindemans
Barbara Claes graduated from the RITCS in 2010 as Master in Dramatic Arts with the self-written theatre monologue “Adventures on and around the windowsill”. She created/wrote several theatre plays and performances (including “Euthanasia with Barbara and Stefanie”, “The Fioretti Project”) and in 2016, with the play “Akaaremoertoe Bahikoeroe”, was selected for the playwriting award. With the collective LUCINDA RA, which she co-founded, they conduct research on socially relevant themes within the arts and seek connections with e.g. psychiatry or social housing societies. She often collaborates with her twin sister theatre maker Stefanie Claes, and is connected to places like Guislain, Albe vzw and yellow Art Geel for workshops and residencies. In 2021, Barbara made “Honey I'm real I exist”, the biographical story of her marriage to her Indian husband. She is also currently working on “Katrientje”, a play about her late sister.
Ineke Nijssen graduated from the Maastricht Drama Academy in 1984. She played for a number of years with Eva Bals Speelteater (now: KOPERGIETERY), where she got to know Eric De Volder. In his company Toneelgroep Ceremonia, she was part of the permanent core of actors for 15 years. She performed in such plays as “Diep in het Bos”, “Regent and Regentes” and “Achter 't Eten”. Currently, Ineke plays in “De Barbier” (Muziektheater Transparant/Tom Goossens) and in “Boze Geesten” (Lazarus). Besides acting, she directs Kommil Foo, coaches young creators and teaches at some theatre schools. Ineke also works/e regularly for television and film. She was involved in the improv programme “Onvoorziene Omstandigheden” (Mark Uytterhoeven), starred in the film “Little Black Spiders” (director: Patrice Toye) and provided guest roles in several TV serials.
